Iowa Supreme Court Overturns Marriage Ban

Federal deducti-what? This news that the Iowa Supreme Court has overturned the ban on same-sex marriage will now dominate the remaining days of the legislative session.

From Iowa Independent...

In a unanimous decision issued just moments ago, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that Iowa’s definition of marriage, which excluded same-sex couples, violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution.
I believe this is the civil rights issue of our time and it is great to see that Iowa is ahead of the curve in recognizing that every person deserves equal rights under the law.

Unfortunately, we will see extreme hatred from opponents of this decision in the coming months. In my local paper this morning was a letter to the editor entitled Pedophilia, polygamy, and incest are next. (I am sure this man made the same arguments over interracial marriage years ago.)

There will surely be more to come on this topic.
