Another example for the need for campaign finance reform. Iowa badly needs limits on campaign contributions and needs to pass the VOICE legislation that would bring voluntary public financing to campaigns.

This is outrageous!!!!!

$5000? I can hardly afford to buy groceries for my son and myself.

I guess you have to be rich to get any attention from Governor Culver. Thought the Democrats were better than that.

Never mind--I linked to this post and wrote something myself including a few other points about VOICE.

Always feel free to link to me, especially during the school day. I can't post at Bleeding Heartland while at work.

The Gov is probably wishing he didn't veto collective bargaining. Otherwise he'd have the union folks lined up into the parking lots

I am pretty sure there aren't many union folks that can afford a $5,000 cocktail hour.

Opening up collective bargaining would do nothing to increase salary, it'd just give workers a chance to negotiate for things like bullet proof vests, more planning for teachers, smaller class sizes for students, etc.

noneed, you missed the point. The unions don't want to give their money to the Governor who backstabbed them. The unions have plenty of cash, just take note on how much they gave to candidates this past election.

And since you brought it up, collective bargaining gives workers a chance to negotiate for those things on the backs of the taxpayers while taking away local control. That equals bigger government. Bigger government is similar to a bigger classroom size, the larger it gets the harder it is to manage.
