Blog for Iowa has a post up about how conservative talk dominates Iowa's airwaves. They took a look at all of the stations that air Rush Limbaugh in the state and here is what they found...
We were astonished to learn that on some of these stations, virtually the entire day (and evening) of programming is devoted to conservative talk. Only one station as far as could be determined, broadcasts anything remotely resembling the opposing point of view, the Mason City station, KGLO, which runs a radio replay of Face the Nation once a week. As if five days a week is not enough conservative talk, several stations run "best ofs" on the weekends (Best of Sean Hannity, for example). Here is the list of radio stations they compiled...
BFIA would also like to correct our Dec. 17 post, Our Second Priority: Media Reform, which erroneously claimed that WHO-Radio in Des Moines, a 50,000 watt station, broadcasts eight and one-half hours per day of conservative talk, 5 days a week. The correct number is thirteen and a half hours per day. See the program schedule below.
Burlington Talk Radio KCPSIf you live near any of these stations, contact them and ask them to air some opposing viewpoints. Suggest Thom Hartman, Ed Schultz, or Stephanie Miller as possible shows they could air.

No point, if the liberal radio hosts brought in money they'd be on the air already. How about we give a round of applause for the free market, the original American way!
I agree though perhaps for different reasons. So long as none of the conservative radio hosts, or their liberal counterparts pass themselves off as "impartial" or "merely reporting the news" I don't care if a station plays them 24/7/365. I don't have to listen to them if I don't want.
It may come as a shock, but radio stations are not debating societies or educational outlets. Broadcasters have free speech rights just like everyone else and should be able to spew out whatever illinformed trash they want to convey their particular view point.
If you want an opposing viewpoint pony up for a broadcast license and get to work.
First and foremost, I think radio stations want to make money. Since a ton of stations are playing only conservative talk, don't you think there's a market for something else?
These stations are just playing it safe and don't want to take a risk.
I suppose the Republican counter to would be that there is a liberal talk radio station called NPR.
