Recap of the Iowa Legislative Session

The Progressive States Network has a great recap of the Iowa Legislative session.

In a solid session of achievement, the Iowa legislature made significant progress on expanding health care coverage, expanding public school and pre-K funding, advancing clean energy proposals, protecting veterans and students, taking on foreclosure abuses, expanding workers' rights, and improving the integrity of state ballots.

Sure they've done "alot" for the state of Iowa, but at what cost?

Back on April 21st, I wrote about the budget that was passed that included millions for the reserve fund.

"The spending plan includes a $615 million reserve fund to tide the state over if there is an economic downturn that slows tax collections.

"This is the greatest savings account in the history of the state," said Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs."

Not only did the legislature pass some great legislation, they also were fiscally responsible.
