Essential Estrogen has a post up about Sam Brownback using the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade as a fundraising pitch for his PAC.
Like many of you, I pray for the day that the highest court in the land overturns that decision, and this long dark night of abortion on demand comes to an end.I don't understand how Rightwingers can think that simply overturning a law would stop all abortions. Until the Right actually gets serious about preventing abortions from happening in the first place, all the pro-life and anti-abortion talk from the Right is just a plea for money.

The goal of the right is not to bring an end to all abortion. The goal is to bring an end to the laws that make abortion legal. So, long as it isn't a legal option -- only something considered or done by the most desperate in society -- they can rest easy. As it stands now, however, because it is the law that people have a right to medical privacy, including to abortion, those on the right feel that they are somehow sanctioning and condoning a practice they abhor.
Although it appears a little odd on the surface, and contradicts with much of the rhetoric that precedes the collection plate, this is really what irks them the most: The state has sanctioned something they violently oppose. The same is also true of gay marriage.
I guess, to put it another way, my evangelical brother once told me, "I may not be able to stop people from being gay, but I can definitely make sure I don't live someplace where it is an accepted way of life." Of course, there was much more there -- going against God, the natural order, etc. -- but you get the gist.
