Don't Criticize the Media Until You Get Out of a Car Without Underwear

The Iowa City Press Citizen had an editorial defending the criticism the media has gotten over excessive coverage of celebrities. I would tend to agree the media, especially cable news, covers celebs, missing teenage girls, panda bears, etc. way too much, but the Press Citizen does make a good point...

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee joined the chorus this week commenting that "there is more attention on Britney Spears getting out of a car without underwear than there is about who is going to be the next president."

Let me get this out of the way to start with: If Huckabee or other presidential candidates got out of a car dressed like Spears was, they'd get plenty of coverage.

No, I'm with Huckabee--the media coverage of this campaign is atrocious. Some of the candidates are proposing big policy changes, and the media can't be bothered to cover those in detail. So people who read the paper and watch the news every single day would have little idea of how the candidates differ on Iraq, the environment, budget and tax policy, etc.

Most of the questions asked in the debates have been poorly framed as well.
