No one is for Abortion

Yesterday, I listened to Ted Sporer on the Steve Deace show. Sporer had a ridiculous comment that Democrats get enjoyment out of abortions. I responded with this comment on Sporer's blog...

Democrats aren't happy about people having abortions. That would be like saying Republicans are happy when a bomb is dropped on a school full of poor kids in a foreign country.
Sporer brought up this comment in a post today called Time for an abortion fight. See Democrats don't want to fight on the issue of abortion. Democrats don't enjoy when people get abortions. However, they believe people should have the choice over their medical decisions.

From Left in the West...
People, not governments or religionists or seculars or scientists, should be in control of this most private part of their bodies. The choice is and should be theirs.
Democrats want to elimanate the need for abortions and stop having it be used as a political football like the Republicans have been doing.

I posted this about month ago...
...no one supports abortion, no matter what kind abortion it is. However, instead of outlawing all abortions and forcing women in desperate situations to seek refuge in a back alley, we should be doing all we can possibly imagine to prevent the need for abortions. This includes providing scientifically based sexual education, make contraception more available, helping people out of poverty, and ensuring people receive prenatal care.
Let's debate how we can elimanate abortions instead of resort to blanket statements that only alienate and add fuel to the fire.

Noneed4thneed, I would not waste your time arguing with Mr. Sporer.

Many people who oppose abortion do so out of religious conviction, but I do not get the impression that Mr. Sporer is one of these.

If he really hates people who believe in publicly funded abortions, I wonder why he is not calling out Rudy Giuliani.

Plenty of so-called pro-lifers are relieved when their own girlfriends or teenage daughters get pregnant unintentionally and are able to obtain a safe abortion.

Many people who have worked for Planned Parenthood could tell you stories about the girl or young woman who was picketing the clinic week after week, but suddenly showed up for an abortion when she had an accidental pregnancy (probably because she was not using birth control, because obtaining birth control would imply that she was sinfully "planning" to have sex).

And when these pro-lifers find out at the 20-week or 28-week ultrasound that their much-wanted baby has a condition that is incompatible with life outside the womb (e.g. missing vital organs or hydrocephaly), you can bet that the vast majority of them would want their doctor to terminate the pregnancy.

The whole issue of late-term abortion has been deliberately misconstrued by Republicans as an issue of "choice," when in fact it is already illegal for a healthy woman to terminate a healthy pregnancy in the third trimester. Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa does not perform ANY abortions beyond four months gestation.

Late abortions are not a matter of women "choosing" not to continue a pregnancy so much as women dealing with medical situations that are beyond their control.
