Bloomberg - Hagel Running as Independents?

There are 8 Democratic candidates, 10 Republican candidates, and rumors keep popping up that Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Michael Bloomberg running on the same ticket as independents.

This morning their are 2 stories from Political Wire that add fuel to this rumor. The first is a poll from the New York Daily News that shows Bloomberg beating Guiliani among New Yorkers. The second story discusses Chuck Hagel appearence on CBS's Face the Nation yesterday.

Here's video from Hagel on Face the Nation...

This would certainly change the dynamics of the Presidential race. I am not sure which party it would hurt more, though. A lot would depend on which candidates the parties nominate.

I think it would hurt Republicans more to have two Republicans (ok, Bloomberg is only a fake Republican, but he does go by the label) saying their party's standard-bearer is so unacceptable that they are compelled to run as independents.

I'm old enough to remember how Perot hurt Poppy Bush. He looked like a Republican and talked like a Republican and made the case against the Republican, allowing Clinton to win with around 43 percent of the vote.

Any of our Democratic candidates could get 43 to 45 percent of the vote easily.

Just saw your comment on Cyclone Conservatives. I hope you would not really vote for Hagel over Hillary. Hagel votes in lock step with Bush on everything (even Iraq). He criticizes Bush a little on Iraq, but when push comes to shove, he's for whatever the president asks for.

As far as I know, Hagel has voted to confirm every judge Bush has ever nominated. We simply cannot afford one more Supreme Court justice nominated by the likes of Hagel.

I am very weery of having 20+ years of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton in the White House. Welcome to the new American Monarchy.

If only Hagel supported Fair Trade, but after doing a little research, is a strong Free Trader. Don't know much about Bloomberg.
