Last weekend when I was in eastern Iowa, someone asked me if Culver was still running for Governor. This person was somewhat joking when they asked this. But why would a person who is active in their county party even have to ask this?
They said they had not seen Culver even once (not even during the primaries) or gotten any materials from the campaign. This person said she had heard the same things coming from other major eastern Iowa towns (Davenport, Dubuque, and Clinton).
Culver's campaign site has this to say about Upcoming Events...Sorry. No public events are currently available.
So for the rest of the month, I am going to be playing a game called Where's Chet? If you find a campaign stop by Culver, please post in the comments section.

Both Chet and Patty have been actively out and about going to local county fairs and events this past week. Chet was just in Iowa City on Friday making his announcement about stem cell research and his proposal as well as being in Pleasant Hill on Saturday for the Hockensmith picnic. They both have been out at county fairs this past week, with Patty doing a large number of them. They're out there, the party and the campaign just need volunteers to make calls to the areas they're going to be to get folks out there.
Or they need something on the internet where they could post where they are going to be. Oh wait, they do have a website.
Patty Judge did stop in Marshalltown at the County Fair 2 weekends ago. But the fact that Culver hasn't even made contact with the county parties in eastern Iowa is concerning. If he has a shot at winning, he must do well in Dubuque, Clinton, and Davenport.
where's culver? he's outraising Nussle for pete's sake.
I have yet to see a check book in a voting booth.
Money is nice, but it is people that actually vote. When activists in 3 key towns don't know who you are, 3 months out, it isn't good.
Culver needs to use some of that money to fill up his car and spend a couple weeks in Eastern Iowa.
I agree that voting should be done in the booth, not with the checkbook.
The emphasis on fundraising seen in the Des Moines Register and certain blogs is disturbing. Is this an election or an auction?
One blogger criticized people who complain that wealthy individuals buy more of a voice than people who can't afford or don't want to contribute to a campaign. Then the blogger complained about PACs buying more of a voice than individuals.
I don't have any great solutions. Shortening the campaign season might help. Do we really need a three-year presidential campaign?
Culver will be in Waterloo on August 1st and yesterday morning the events listing on their website was updated. Chet's out there, as is his running mate.
Patty will also be at two events in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo on Saturday and in Boone on Sunday. The events page lists these details.
