Vote for Culver in Feingold's Pick a Progressive Patriot

Another email from the Iowa Rapid Response Network...

Vote for Chet Culver

Senator Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriots Fund wants your help identifying a candidate for Governor to support in this year's elections. The candidate chosen by the grassroots as a Progressive Patriot will receive a $5000 contribution from the Progressive Patriots Fund. These candidates were selected by you through the candidate suggestion form, and we hope to do more of these events in the future.

You do not have to create an account to vote.

Thanks for voting,
Ellen and Trish

I think he's serious.Don't you have to be progressive to be in the support a progressive contest?

Well, assuming you're serious, and if I understand you... no.

"If X is in a contest labeled as progressive, then X is progressive" is not convincing. This logic is based on, I think, "If a politician says something, than whatever they said is true."

A more convincing argument than just swallowing a politician's statement would analyze Chet Culver's positions:

- pro-capital punishment
- anti gay-marriage
- pro-eminent domain

To say Chet Culver is progressive is kind of like saying Bush is antiwar. It simply isn't true.

I see where you are coming from Nicolai. I voted for Culver because Nussle is the exact opposite of being a Progressive Patriot. Nussle is a Regressive Loyalist that would ruin our state.

If you don't feel right about voting for Culver there are other solid progressives that you can pick.

I think it's great that so many people are lining up behind Culver because of what he isn't. But if that's how you want to play it, here's another list of what he isn't: Capable, intelligent, good at his job, knowledgeable about the state and its government, popular among the people (even Democrats!) who know him best, a leader, able to raise money west of the Appalachians...
