The fact is no one can say whether the stimulous bill will work. A good many conservative economists don't think it will. They may be wrong, in which case the Republicans who go along with them will be wrong too. When Mark Sandford, the Republican govenor of South Carolina was recently asked whether the Republican party was running a risk by doing this (and by extension opposing the stimulous bill in general) he candidly said "yes". I don't necessarily fault Republicans for opposing the stimulous bill if they intelligently disagree that it is a solution to the problem.<BR/><BR/>If the stimulus bill works then 130years of Republican policy and conservative thinking will be proven wrong and will it gut the party. But if ideas matter, there's really no alternative.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
